General Hospital "Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš" equipped for comprehensive secondary healthcare

General Hospital „Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš“ was visited today by Prime Minister Elmedin Konaković and Minister of Health Zilha Ademaj, and acting director Sead Bašić said that this hospital provided 930,000 services in the past year, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

The current occupancy of hospital capacities is 55 percent, and it is equipped to provide comprehensive secondary healthcare for patients in Sarajevo Canton.

Incidentally, the healthcare program in Sarajevo Canton being prepared by the Health Insurance Institute of Sarajevo Canton should systematically organize the provision of healthcare services in Sarajevo Canton.

Konaković said that the reform processes aim for patients to receive better healthcare services, with better treatment of people working in the health sector. He emphasized that funds saved in some rationalization processes will remain earmarked funds for healthcare, and that the Sarajevo Canton Government will work on ensuring the best possible working conditions in both healthcare institutions (General Hospital and UKCS, editor's note).

We recall that during January this year, the Sarajevo Canton Government and the director of UKCS and former director of the General Hospital, Sebija Izetbegović, were heavily criticized for the idea of merging the General Hospital with UKCS, and moving the FBiH Government into this building, which led to citizen protests. The profession also raised its voice and the idea was abandoned, with Prime Minister Konaković attributing everything at the time to media speculation. Even today during the visit, he said that „it is important that unnecessary media turbulences between this hospital and the Clinical Center calm down.“
