General Hospital "Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš" is a matter of better quality of life for citizens of Canton Sarajevo and BiH

The Cantonal Committee (KO) of the Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SDP BiH) Sarajevo opposes the merger of the General Hospital “Prim. Dr. Abdulah Nakaš” with the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS), which would lead to the closure of this hospital, and believes that the City and Canton Sarajevo (KS) must not be left without a secondary healthcare hospital facility.

Secretary of KO SDP BiH Sarajevo Predrag Puharić emphasized that KO SDP BiH supports processes and health system reform. However, he added, it is evident that the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) has undertaken some non-transparent actions without social dialogue and consultations with other political and non-governmental entities.

– That should not be the case in a democratic and pluralistic society – Puharić pointed out.

As he said, KO SDP BiH demands from the FBiH Government a completely transparent conduct of the reform and the inclusion of professional public and citizens in that process, which must be in accordance with the FBiH Government's Decree on rules for the participation of interested public in the procedure of preparing federal legal regulations and other acts.

KO SDP BiH believes, Puharić stated, that the priority of the Federal Government should be resolving the financing of the Clinical Center in Sarajevo, so that the majority of those costs are not borne by KS.

He emphasized that the issue of the General Hospital is not a topic for political points but a matter of better quality of life for citizens, not only of KS but also of FBiH.

President of the Women's Forum of KO SDP BiH Sarajevo Fatima Skok-Hadžović believes that the abolition of the hospital “Prim. Dr. Abdulah Nakaš”, where over 2,500 babies have been born since the war conflicts in BiH to this day, and where hundreds of wounded civilians and soldiers have been treated and saved, would be a crime against those people, as well as against the citizens of Sarajevo.

She told the employees of the General Hospital that they have the support of the Women's Forum of KO SDP BiH, which will, together with the citizens of Sarajevo, persistently fight for the survival of this institution, which she said is “one of the symbols of this city.”
