General Hospital Takes Over Complete Secondary Healthcare at the Level of Sarajevo Canton

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Chairperson of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly Ana Babić visited today the Public Institution General Hospital "Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš", as the Government of Sarajevo Canton recently gave consent for this hospital to form a Pediatric Department at the secondary level. 

- The Pediatrics department, as planned, would have a capacity of 30 beds. This requires significant financial resources as well as the employment of new staff. I hope that by opening this department we will ensure adequate healthcare for children - said the hospital director Zlatko Kravić, and stated that they have the courage, will and knowledge for this.

Chairperson Babić was informed that in the previous period a complete reconstruction of the operating rooms was carried out, one was opened on the ground floor, and the construction of another is underway in the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department.

- The complete secondary healthcare at the level of Sarajevo Canton has been taken over, and, most importantly, the citizens' trust in this institution has been restored. We have purchased new instruments, four anesthesia machines and operating tables. We have renovated a new laparoscopy tower, a laser for kidney stone fragmentation, lasers for hemorrhoid, fissure and fistula surgery - stated director Kravić and announced the imminent start of work on the observation room.

According to his words, thanks to the Assembly and the Government of Sarajevo Canton, we bought an MRI, a CT scanner, a dual-head gamma camera, and currently rooms are being built to house these devices so that they can be operational by September.

- I hope that by the end of the year we will obtain ISO standard accreditation because our goal is to adapt the hospital to the needs of disabled persons - announced director Kravić and emphasized that this includes the introduction of paths for the blind, "audio" elevators, and guides in Braille alphabet.

The meeting also discussed the conceptual design for the construction of a geriatrics and palliative medicine facility, for which it is necessary to secure around 14 million KM.

Chairperson Babić and director Kravić also visited the Heart Center located on the tenth floor of the hospital. It is equipped with the most modern technology and staffed by top doctors who provide services in the field of interventional cardiology - cardiac catheterization, as well as cardiac surgery for children and adults.

- Here are modern single-bed and double-bed hospital rooms where, in addition to adult patients, newly operated babies also recover - explained doctor Sanko Pandur during the tour, and added that citizens from the Federation of BiH and the RS come here.

Chairperson Babić pointed out that since her visit to this institution at the beginning of February until today, visible positive progress has been made in its functioning and operation.

- During today's tour of the most modern heart center in BiH, I became convinced that it is in your interest as well as mine for this hospital to be a reference center, in order to provide our fellow citizens with the highest quality healthcare service - emphasized, on this occasion, Chairperson Babić.
