(Patria) - Staff of the General Hospital "Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš", led by director Prof.
Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović, today paid tribute to the surgeon and humanitarian after whom the hospital is named, by laying flowers at the memorial fountain within the hospital grounds, reciting the Fatiha and observing a minute of silence, on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of his death.
Colleagues once again recalled the dedicated work and great humanity of Dr. Abdulah Nakaš, a specialist in general surgery and head of surgical disciplines at the then State Hospital, and chief surgeon of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
They particularly highlighted his contribution during the most difficult days of the siege of Sarajevo and his selfless attitude towards patients, as well as colleagues and associates. Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš made an immeasurable contribution as a surgeon and as a long-time president of the Independent Professional Union of Healthcare Workers of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a member of the Medical Chamber of Sarajevo Canton, and as a delegate in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
For his work during the aggression against Sarajevo and the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and his post-war engagement in the field of medical sciences, he was awarded the April 6th Award of the City of Sarajevo.
