Omerefendić: Increasing the coefficient to 14.3 would endanger the pension system as a whole

The Bill on Pension and Disability Insurance (PIO) did not receive majority support at today's session of the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH.

Previously, two amendments by the Club of Delegates of the Croat People, which would fundamentally change this law, otherwise proposed by the Federal Government, were approved by a majority vote.

One of the amendments provided for an increase in the point by which, according to the law, the amount of future pensions would be calculated. The Government proposed that this point be 13.6, while according to the amendments, it would be 14.31.

The president of the Pensioners' Association, Omer Omerefendić, told Patria that pensioners can be satisfied that such a law with this amendment was not adopted, because, as he says, it would undermine the entire pension system.

- Our position is that increasing the coefficient to 14.3 would endanger the pension system as a whole. New pensioners would receive enormously large pensions, while we older ones would remain the same or even experience a reduction in our pensions. We absolutely supported that the increase was not more than 13.6 – emphasizes Omerefendić.

Although the Association fought for a new law, they say they are satisfied that it was not adopted today, but that it will need to be done urgently because the existing one is catastrophic.
