Omerašević: We fear we will be left without water again

Over a thousand citizens from the Municipality of Zavidovići were displaced after floods and landslides. Streets are currently being repaired after the water receded, and several "treatments" of street washing have been done, so it is already difficult to notice that anything happened, says the Mayor of the Municipality of Zavidovići, Suad Omerašević, for the Patria news agency.

He further added that there were many volunteers from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that all machines and available mechanization were used.

- Many other municipalities also helped, as well as colleagues, mayors from Goražde, Jablanica, Konjic. Solidarity was expressed in that regard. When it comes to water supply, we have finally repaired a major breakdown on a landslide where the main pipeline was damaged. There were several interventions, and we managed to find a solution, although it is not stable, and we fear a potential new breakdown – says Omerbašić.

The mayor says there is enough humanitarian aid that has come from Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as from Europe.

- People are organizing and bringing aid, and we are immediately distributing it to citizens in endangered areas. We haven't had time to deal with the damages, but they are huge. We will form a commission that will have a lot of work. At this moment, the damages certainly exceed the capabilities of both the citizens and the Municipality of Zavidovići. I fear that the scope of the problem exceeds even the capabilities of the state. I hope for adequate assistance from other countries and that it will be used rationally. It should go for specific purposes and for what is most needed by the citizens – added Omerašević.
