Round Table: Europe Facing Challenges of (In)tolerance and (In)security

The International Institute for Middle Eastern and Balkan Studies (IFIMES) is organizing a round table titled Europe Facing Challenges of (In)tolerance and (In)security, which will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at 4:00 PM in Ljubljana, reports the Patria News Agency.

In light of the recent events in France and the wave of activities by various religious and other extremists, the world public has been confronted with questions of freedom and tolerance, and numerous issues have been raised about the role of religion, society, and the state. What are the challenges facing the EU and the world, and how can we seek answers to prevent the intolerance and dangers we have witnessed in recent days? With our interlocutors, we will touch upon the background of current events and world politics, as well as the interests of individual states in this context – say IFIMES.

At the round table, Matej Tonin, Head of the Parliamentary Group of New Slovenia – Christian Democrats (NSi) and Deputy Chairman of the Commission for Oversight of Intelligence and Security Services of the National Assembly (Parliament) of the Republic of Slovenia, Primož Šterbenc, Assistant Professor at the University of Primorska, Ervin Hladnik Milharčič, journalist for the daily newspaper "Dnevnik" and former long-time correspondent from the Middle East, will speak on these and other issues.

The round table will be held in Slovenian and will be moderated by Zijad Bećirović.
