OHR will not interfere: Responsibility for elections in Mostar lies with parties, the city must not be divided

OHR spokesperson Mario Brkić, in a statement to the Patria News Agency, emphasized that it is “extremely important that local elections in Mostar are finally held and that the citizens of that city finally begin to enjoy the same rights as citizens in all other parts of the country“.

When asked whether the High Representative Valentin Inzko would use his Bonn powers and make a decision that would allow the citizens of Mostar to go to the polls on October 2nd, given that key political actors HDZ BiH and SDA cannot agree, Brkić said:

-The responsibility of the parties is to implement the decision of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2010. Talks between the parties must continue and the parties must make additional efforts to resolve the issue of Mostar.

This obligation will not disappear on its own. It is of key importance to resolve the issue of Mostar in accordance with the Court's decision, in a legally based manner, but also in a way that will not divide the city.
