OHR: Brčko can resolve the issue of the 'Serb House', its name is not in line with the multi-ethnic structure of the District and BiH

(Patria) - Brčko District can resolve the issue of the 'Serb House', the Office of the High Representative (OHR) titled its statement today.

The OHR states that "we have recently witnessed a constant spread of unverified claims that the purchase of an abandoned casino building in Brčko District by the Catering Service of RS during 2025 represents a threat to the full and consistent implementation of the Final Arbitration Decision for Brčko or a potential violation of the Constitution of BiH or the Statute and laws of Brčko District".

The Brčko District Supervisor, the OHR emphasizes, has been in contact with the Government of RS and the leadership of Brčko District regarding this issue for several months.

(Patria) - The situation regarding the building called

"The name given to the building, 'Serb House', is not in line with the multi-ethnic structure of Brčko District and BiH. Its timely removal will ensure a positive environment for dialogue on other issues related to this facility.

As stated in the correspondence between the Supervisor and the Secretary General of the Government of Republika Srpska from September 2025, which was provided to the leaders of Brčko District, no entity can exercise executive power in Brčko District except in cases where it is explicitly defined by the Statute of the District.

The Supervisor noted that he has full confidence in the ability of the leaders of Brčko District to resolve this issue in the interest of all stakeholders and in accordance with the Statute," the OHR stated.
