OHR: Bosnia and Herzegovina needs a law on denial of genocide

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – The OHR said on Friday it is regrettable that Bosnia and Herzegovina still does not have a state law that would prohibit the denial of genocide. 

„The need for its adoption is more than obvious. The newly elected authorities of BiH now have the opportunity to show that they are committed to the rule of law and good governance and to adopt relevant laws,” the OHR commented for N1, as reported by Patria.

The Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT) on March 20 delivered a final verdict against Radovan Karadžić for genocide and other crimes committed in BiH between 1992 and 1995. The judge stated that Karadžić was guilty of genocide, crimes against humanity, and violations of the laws and customs of war, sentencing him to life imprisonment.

Authorities from the Republika Srpska rejected the Court's indictment. The President of the SNSD and member of the BiH Presidency, Milorad Dodik, called the verdict hypocritical.

Dodik told reporters in Banja Luka today that the initiative to adopt a law at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina that would punish those who deny crimes will be rejected.

„It would not be the first time we reject something like that,” said Milorad Dodik.
