European Commission also commented: RS referendum is illegal

The referendum held in Republika Srpska has no legal basis, the European Commission announced, reports the Patria News Agency.

European Commission spokesperson Maja Kocijančič says that the referendum held in Republika Srpska has no legal basis, because the Constitutional Court of BiH decided to suspend the decision on the referendum until its constitutionality is decided.

-This referendum cannot change the final and binding decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH, Kocijančič stated at a press conference in Brussels. 

She says that the European Commission encourages institutions in BiH to resolve the issue of Republika Srpska Day within existing legal procedures, within the existing Constitution of the country and in a constructive dialogue. 

-It is important that everyone refrains from activities that could contribute to the escalation of the situation and that BiH focuses on the reforms necessary to address the economic and social issues they face so that the country can progress on the path of European integration, Kocijančič said in Brussels.
