Traditional Martyr's Prayer Held in Solun near Olovo

(Patria) - A program of the traditional Martyr's Prayer was held today at the martyrs' cemetery in the Solun community, Islamic Community (MIZ) Olovo.

There are 21 traditional prayer sites in the Olovo community, and the prayers begin at the end of May, starting with the prayer at Kurban-kamen above Glavična, where, according to tradition, Sultan Mehmed II Fatih sacrificed his kurban, and continuing with prayers at Jasik, Careva Ćuprija, Martinovići, Čuništa, and Memagića Stijena.

The last prayer is the Martyr's Prayer held in the harem of the mosque in Solun, where 150 martyrs of the Olovo battlefield are buried. The first was buried on August 20, 1992.

On this day, family members of the martyrs, as well as other community members and believers, visit the cemetery and remember the martyrs.

The imam of the Solun community, Mujo-ef. Numanović, addressed the attendees at the beginning of the program. During the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, he took over the imam duties in Solun and officiated the funeral prayers for the martyrs buried in this cemetery.

Efendija Numanović reminded of the importance of showing respect to all those who contributed to the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially the martyrs.

- Special rules of conduct apply in the place where we are. Special courtesy and attention are required. Our arrival, and then our dignified behavior, testifies to our respect for the martyrs and their sacrifice - said efendija Numanović.

The chief imam of MIZ Olovo, Esad-ef. Pepić, emphasized that the martyrs' cemetery in Solun has its specificity, as it is inseparable from the concrete historical moment of the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in addition to respecting tradition.

- The price of living and testifying to the kelimei-šehadet is not easy at all, but it is honorable in both worlds. The martyrs' cemetery in Solun is our reminder of the recent past, a guide in preserving the values of defense, and a comfort for the peace of mind and soul - said efendija Pepić.

He conveyed that the values testified to by coming to the prayer sites are also shown in everyday actions.

- This is also the identity of Olovo through which we prove ourselves and show that, as Muslims, we want to remain and survive in this area. We gather at these prayer sites, we pray for forgiveness, for our hearts to be at peace, and for us to be closer to each other - concluded efendija Pepić.
