Promotion of Publications of the Oriental Institute of the University of Sarajevo Held

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A promotion of publications of the Oriental Institute of the University of Sarajevo, the journal Prilozi za orijentalnu filologiju 67/2017 and the book by academician Esad Duraković, Classical Poetry in Arabic, Persian and Turkish, was held in the ceremonial hall of the Rectorate of the University of Sarajevo.

"This promotion is of exceptional importance for the work of an institution such as the Oriental Institute, which, through its scientific research and critical work, will present as many original works and materials written and being written in Ottoman Turkish, Arabic and Persian as possible, in order to make them accessible to today's scientific audience, as well as to our and the world public. Today's promotion is also special because it is dedicated to academician Esad Duraković, as a sign of gratitude for his immeasurable contribution to the development of the Oriental Institute of the University of Sarajevo and the entire Bosnian-Herzegovinian Oriental studies. Academician Duraković, a doyen of our Oriental studies, has once again delighted us with his book, which will further bring the poetry and poetics of that time closer to our professional public," pointed out Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, Rector of the University of Sarajevo, in his introductory address.

Dr. Amina Šiljak-Jesenković, senior research associate in the field of Turkish language and literature and editor-in-chief of the journal Prilozi za orijentalnu filologiju 67/2017, spoke to those present during her introductory address about scientific papers in the field of philology, i.e., language and literature, and about contributions and bibliographies in this issue. She emphasized that these are original scientific papers by Prof. Dr. Elma Dizdar, Prof. Dr. Munir Mujić, Dr. Berin Bajrić and Prof. Dr. Mirza Sarajkić from the field of Arabic studies, Goran Pavelić from Zagreb from the field of Turkology, as well as a contribution by Prof. Dr. Milan Adamović from Göttingen and a bibliography of academician Duraković's works prepared by Minela Đelmo.

Dr. Elma Korić, senior research associate in the field of history of the Ottoman period, reviewed works in the fields of history and diplomatics, art history and cultural history at the held promotion, and presented reviews of published books in these fields.

The book by academician Esad Duraković, Classical Poetry in Arabic, Persian and Turkish: A Poetological Approach, is a multidisciplinary study that testifies to the continuity and evaluation of literature in Arabic, Persian and Turkish. The author, with his scholarly competencies, sublimates several scientific disciplines from Oriental philology, literary history, literary theory, methodology of literary study, and focuses on the terminological and scientific foundation of classical literature in Oriental languages. At the same time, as a guiding motif of the entire study, the thesis of the indivisibility of that "kingdom of literature" runs through it, which is completely contrary to contemporary divisions of literature based on ethnic and state-political communities. Today, Prof. Dr. Munir Mujić, professor at the Department of Arabic Language and Literature of the Oriental Philology Section of the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo, and Prof. Dr. Munir Drkić, professor at the Department of Persian Language and Literature of the Oriental Philology Section of the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo, spoke about the book.

The journal of the Oriental Institute of the University of Sarajevo, Prilozi za orijentalnu filologiju, is published once a year and publishes scientific papers in the fields of philology, literature, history and diplomatics, art history and cultural history, as well as reviews of relevant literature published in our country and abroad related to the journal's topics.
