Commemoration held for General Šiber, burial and funeral today at Bare

Family members, relatives and friends gathered today for a commemoration following the death of retired General of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Stjepan Šiber, who passed away in Sarajevo on Thursday at the age of 78. 

Šiber will be buried today at the Bare City Cemetery.

Stjepan Šiber was born on 20 June 1938 in Gradačac, where he completed primary and secondary school, after which he went to Ljubljana to attend the Military Academy. He then became an active officer of the JNA, rising through a series of promotions to the rank of colonel in the JNA by 1992.

In April 1992, with the start of the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Stjepan Šiber made himself available to the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose authorities appointed him as deputy chief/commander of the Staff of the Supreme Command of the Army of RBiH.

In 1993, the Presidency of RBiH promoted Šiber to the rank of general of the Army of RBiH and sent him into diplomacy as a military attaché in Switzerland. He spent the post-war period in Sarajevo, Patria reports.
