Commemoration held for Beriz Belkić: He was a human colossus and devoted to Bosnia and Herzegovina

(Patria) - A commemorative session was held today in the Great Hall of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion of the death of Beriz Belkić.

The commemorative session was organized by the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The commemorative session was attended, among others, by members of the Belkić family, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić and member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović, numerous politicians, the president of the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and numerous members of this party of which Belkić was a long-time member.

"Our cooperation lasted from after the war until the end. He was a pleasant man who would bring a smile to your face even if you met him on the street. He was a calm man who never crossed the line of decency, no matter how much he disagreed with someone. People like him are rare, always striving for compromise and ready to take a step back if necessary, for the sake of achieving a higher goal. We will miss him," said Komšić in his address.

In his address, the president of the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Semir Efendić, said that there are no words that can express the sorrow we feel due to the departure of such a great figure.

"I had the honor of knowing him, and I will always be grateful to him for supporting me when I took over the party leadership, even though he didn't have to, as he had been out of politics for a long time. Few can boast such a rich political career. He truly carried Bosnia and Herzegovina in his heart and did not bend his spine under any pressures. Beriz Belkić was a human colossus and the closest associate of Haris Silajdžić since the founding of the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Efendić.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić said that few people have left such a deep mark.

"He will be remembered as a hardworking and honorable man. Even in retirement, he followed what we were doing. He was devoted to Bosnia and Herzegovina until the end," said Zvizdić.

The funeral prayer for Belkić will be held at 5:00 PM at the Lav City Cemetery in Sarajevo.

Belkić was also a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina for eight months after the withdrawal of Alija Izetbegović.
