Event Held at Isa-beg's Hamam

Around 200 athletes, journalists, students, representatives of political parties and religious communities, as well as cultural, health and educational workers, activists and citizens of other professions, from different parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in lectures, restoration and socializing at Isa-beg's Hamam in Sarajevo, symbolically contributing to the restoration of this culturally significant facility, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

These activities at Isa-beg's Hamam were organized by the Foundation Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB) in cooperation with the Bosniak Institute - Adil Zulfikarpašić Foundation, the US Alumni Association in BiH, and the Vakuf Directorate within the project "Make it Yours!". The project is funded by the EU.

The project aims to raise awareness among citizens that the cultural heritage of BiH is a common treasure, to increase the sense of belonging and connection with cultural heritage, and to create space for open dialogue about heritage, culture, and identity in today's BiH.

Through lectures by experts with many years of domestic and international experience in the field of cultural heritage, and practical work (such as plastering, masonry, cleaning delicate facade fragments, and grouting) at Isa-beg's Hamam, workshop participants had the opportunity to learn about the basic principles of cultural heritage protection, its values, and the importance of using forgotten traditional tools and materials used in the restoration of tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

CHwB's "Cultural Heritage Ambassadors" - public figures who have distinguished themselves through their work as promoters of BiH and its cultural heritage - also contributed to raising awareness of the importance of common cultural heritage. At the last workshop held on October 9, historian and director of the Sarajevo War Theatre (SARTR) Nihad Kreševljaković was declared a new cultural heritage ambassador.

- This is a great honor for me, considering that I grew up in a family where a high awareness of cultural and historical heritage was always present. My grandfather Hamdija Kreševljaković, as well as my father Muhamed, who worked for years at the Institute for the Protection of Cultural, Historical and Natural Heritage of BiH, also made significant contributions to the protection of our heritage - said Kreševljaković.

The "Cultural Heritage Ambassadors" and participants of previous workshops signed the "Declaration on the Protection of Cultural Heritage", thus becoming friends of cultural heritage in BiH.

The CHwB Foundation is a Swedish non-governmental organization founded in 1995 in response to the extensive destruction of cultural heritage during the conflicts in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
