Mountaineering course held: Oldest participant is 83 years old

The Council of the Local Community "Hrastovi-Mrkovići" organized, in cooperation with the Mountaineering and Skiing Club "Centar", a small mountaineering school which was held on Čavle on Sunday, for the residents of that local community, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

As part of this project, experienced mountaineer and head of the "Club of Rescuers 2000" Paša Grbo gave a lecture on the basics of mountaineering to interested participants in the premises of the Mountaineering and Skiing Club "Centar" on Čavle, followed by practical training in nature.

According to the secretary of the Local Community "Hrastovi-Mrkovići", Vildana Kujan, 40 lovers of mountaineering and nature responded to this mountaineering course. Upon completion of the course, diplomas were awarded to all participants, the oldest of whom is 83 years old. The Commission of the Municipal Council Centar for Local Communities and Cooperation with Municipalities and Cities approved 1,450 KM for the realization of this project.

The president of the Council of the Local Community "Hrastovi-Mrkovići", Senad Imamović, said that this project was organized with the intention of professional lecturers teaching participants from the area about the basics of mountaineering and orientation in space.

- Given that this was a demarcation line during the past war, participants of the mountaineering course were informed about how to behave in case they find explosive ordnance. Considering that the largest number of visitors to Čavle and Barice and the surrounding mountains come from the area of the Local Community "Hrastovi-Mrkovići", which is geographically closest to these picnic areas, the Council of our Local Community decided to implement this project especially for young people who increasingly come to nature and who have not encountered leftover explosive ordnance so far - said Zaimović.

Hikers were also shown how to move in mountainous terrain. Thanks to the investments of the Centar Municipality in the infrastructure of this area, an increased number of hikers and nature lovers is expected, which will ultimately result in additional employment.
