Bans Imposed on Naser Orić

The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has imposed restrictive measures on Naser Orić, the wartime commander of Srebrenica, after the BiH Prosecutor's Office requested these measures due to the risk of flight, as Orić arrived in BiH through an extradition process, and also due to the risk of influencing witnesses, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

The proposed restrictive measures include limited movement to the area of KS and ZDK, a ban on contact with witnesses and other suspects, weekly reporting to the competent police authority of the MUP KS, and the confiscation of documents and a ban on the issuance of new ones.

We remind you that a hearing was held on Monday before the pre-trial judge of the Court of BiH, Željka Marenić, in the case of Naser Orić, for whom the BiH Prosecutor's Office claims there is a reasonable suspicion that he committed war crimes against the civilian population on 8/6/1992 and 7/12/1992 in the village of Zalazje, Srebrenica municipality.

Although the defense requested the Court of BiH to reconsider the BiH Prosecutor's Office's requests, Judge Marenić made a decision on the restrictive measures.

Naser Orić, the wartime commander of Srebrenica, was extradited to BiH from Switzerland on Friday, June 26, 2015, where he was arrested on June 10 based on a Serbian arrest warrant for alleged crimes in the village of Zalazje near Srebrenica.

He was placed in extradition detention, where he spent 14 days. Serbia requested his extradition, as did BiH, and the Swiss court decided in favor of BiH.
