Well-known Sarajevo publicist and journalist, Muhamed Velić, wrote a comment on social networks regarding the decision of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH to ban the wearing of religious symbols by judges and prosecutors, i.e., holders of judicial functions.
The Patria News Agency is transmitting his comment without corrections.
- The hijab is a right for both veiled and unveiled Muslim women. The HJPC, with its decision, flagrantly violates human rights. This is discrimination par excellence against all women, and especially against veiled Muslim women and Catholic nuns, who, as such, cannot even be witnesses.
Bosnian society should be open and inclusive and respect human rights. The state - Bosnia and Herzegovina and its institutions - should also be like that. The hijab is a religious obligation for a Muslim woman. It is her identity. It is her human right. We must respect human rights!, Velić states.
