Decisive moment: Will Izetbegović, Komšić and Čović find a compromise?

In the afternoon hours, a meeting of Bakir Izetbegović, deputy president of SDA, Željko Komšić, president of the Democratic Front, and Dragan Čović, leader of HDZ BiH, will be held in the building of the Presidency of BiH, reports the Patria news agency.

The meeting will attempt to reach an agreement on the distribution of ministerial positions in the Government of the Federation of BiH, with the previous meeting on this topic held on February 22, after a new composition of the Council of Ministers of BiH was agreed upon.

Čović has been stating for days that he expects an agreement between HDZ BiH, SDA and DF on the formation of the federal government, but also announced the possibility of forming new parliamentary majorities if the meeting is unsuccessful.

-       I am convinced that we will conclude the negotiations on Sunday and say that we gave this parliamentary majority a chance. That is our goal. We must all understand once and for all that nothing is given to HDZ, but that we won this at the elections – said Dragan Čović yesterday after the HNS meeting.

The president of HDZ continues to insist that HDZ and the parties gathered around it should receive six ministries in the Government of FBiH. However, DF also wants the same number of ministerial positions, so Komšić clearly stated that he will not back down from his demands.

Bakir Izetbegović, deputy president of SDA, said after the previous meeting that Čović's wishes are unrealistic. He also pointed out that SDA has so far shown readiness to make a concession, expressing hope that “the positions of some others will mature” by the continuation of the talks.

He said that SDA is ready to cede one ministerial position intended for Bosniaks to DF and to reduce the number of requested ministries from eight to seven.
