Memic Case Trial Postponed Due to Illness of One Defendant

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The hearing in the case of Zijad Mutap and others (Dženan Memić case) scheduled for December 30 has been cancelled due to the illness of one of the defendants, and the next hearing will be held on January 13, 2022.

Four witnesses will be called at that time, two of whom were at the scene on the night of February 8, 2016: Nebojša Veljović, a police officer from the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies who took photos of Dženan Memić's body with his mobile phone, and Elvedin Boja, a police officer from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, who approached the injured Memić.

Even during the trial at the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo, it was not clearly established in what position Dženan was found, nor why Veljović took a photo of the young man.

At the last hearing, three witnesses testified: Arijana Memić, Dženan Memić's sister, and police officers Nedžad Hrvat from DKPT and Velibor Ristivojević from MUP KS. They testified about the contact with Alisa Mutap (now Ramić), who stopped the DKPT vehicle on the fateful night. Both officers confirmed that Mutap provided information about herself, Dženan Memić, her address, her studies, and that she was conscious and communicative at the scene in Velika aleja. What she did not know was the type of car they were allegedly hit by, its color, from which direction it came, and in which direction it left. Both officers confirmed that her father, Zijad Mutap, arrived at the scene a few minutes after his daughter's mobile phone was called, and the call was answered by police officer Ristivojević.

In this case, Zijad Mutap, Alisa Mutap Ramić, Hasan Dupovac, Josip Barić, and Muamer Ožegović are charged with organized crime, illegal mediation, aiding the perpetrator after the commission of a criminal offense, obstruction of justice, and by concealing evidence and perpetrators, fabricating evidence, and concealing facts known to them, they undertook actions aimed at concealing the actual manner in which Dženan Memić sustained severe life-threatening injuries.
