Defence of BiH – Igman 2016: Representatives of all Corps of the ARBiH to Attend

Representatives of the Organisational Committee of the event „Defence of BiH – Igman 2016“, which this year is being held for the 16th time at the end of the first week of August on Mount Igman, have announced a large number of various activities in which representatives of veteran categories from the former zones of responsibility of all corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina will participate and attend for the first time in an organised manner, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

A mass turnout of all veteran categories from across BiH is expected at Igman, who will pay tribute to all fallen soldiers for Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as show respect to all surviving patriots.

The Director of the Memorial Fund of the Sarajevo Canton, Nurudin Džiho, reminded all present that this event is in fact a history lesson intended primarily for young people and our children who, under the current school curriculum, do not have the opportunity in educational institutions to learn and find out everything about the struggle of their fathers, mothers, and grandfathers for their own survival and the creation of our only homeland.

This year's event will begin on Thursday, 04 August at 10:00 AM at the „Kovači“ Memorial Centre with a ceremonial opening and laying of flowers. On the same day, a programme titled "Young People on the Path of Life" is planned, within which young people of all ages will set off with war flags towards Veliko Polje on Igman. On that path, they will stop at the Suada Dilberović and Olga Sučić Bridge, where they will lay flowers, and then at the War Tunnel.

The following day, on Friday, 05 August, they will head towards Veliko Polje and the war mosque on Igman, where a suitable religious programme will be held. There, they will join the parade of units of all corps of the ARBiH. A rich cultural and artistic programme will also be held on the plateau of Veliko Polje, and flowers will be laid at the martyr cemeteries at Veliko Polje, Mrazište, Brezovača and Sjenička kosa, as well as at the cemeteries in Hrasnica, Trnovo and Pazarić.
