European Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism to vote on abolishing seasonal clock changes tomorrow

SARAJevo, (Patria) - Seasonal clock changes, though few expected it, have stirred passions in the European Union.

The European Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism will vote on a proposal to abolish seasonal clock changes on Monday.

The European Commission proposed on September 12 last year to abolish the semi-annual clock change for the entire European Union in 2019, leaving member states to decide whether to keep summer or winter time.

According to that proposal, this year was supposed to be the last in which clocks would be moved twice a year. Although the proposal was expected to pass easily, it has raised numerous questions and has not received unanimous support.

The transport ministers of EU member states decided to postpone the abolition of seasonal clock changes until 2021. On the other hand, the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy requested a postponement until the end of March next year.

The final opinion of the European Parliament on this issue should be adopted at the next plenary session in mid-month in Strasbourg.

Only after that can the final negotiations between the European Council and the Parliament begin.
