Uborak landfill unblocked

MOSTAR, (Patria) - Residents gathered around the Initiative "Because it concerns us" unblocked the Uborak landfill on Sunday, which had been blocked since February 22, leaving Mostar streets filled with garbage. The Uborak landfill was also discussed by the presidents of SDA and HDZ BiH, Bakir Izetbegović and Dragan Čović, who stated that a solution involving the state level of government is needed.  

 "We cannot allow all citizens of Mostar and its surroundings to continue suffering due to an irresponsible mayor and the inaction of the authorities who have not taken care of the garbage in the streets, unlike other municipalities," stated the Initiative on their Facebook page.

 They emphasize that they have decided to temporarily allow waste disposal at the Uborak landfill solely for the sake of the citizens of Mostar and surrounding settlements.

 "Now we expect the urgent involvement of the canton and the Federation, which was promised, and the signing of our realistic demands as soon as possible. In case of their lack of reaction and the signing of the demands, we will be forced to block the illegal Uborak landfill again," warn the Initiative, noting that they will continue with peaceful gatherings in front of the Uborak landfill, without blocking it.

 The closure of the landfill is a demand of the residents who state that its capacity has long been exceeded, and the landfill lacks the necessary documentation.
