Initiative to raise the age limit for professional soldiers of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina to remain in service until age 45 rejected

(Patria) - The Joint Commission for Defense and Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at its 9th session, did not support the principles of the Proposal for a Law on Amendments to the Law on Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose proposer is the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Joint Commission did not support the parliamentary initiative of Sabina Ćudić, which tasks the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina with, within 30 days of the adoption of this initiative, adopting amendments or supplements to Article 5 of the Rulebook on Uniforms of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina, number 44/17) and thus enabling the wearing of the hijab, as a religious symbol, by female members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Joint Commission also did not support the delegate initiative of Džemal Smajić, which requests from the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina to, within 30 days, prepare and submit for adoption to the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina a Proposal for amending the Law on the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which would increase the age limit for the duration of professional service of soldiers in the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 40 to 45 years, as it would be rational and economical to retain these soldiers in service, especially considering the fact that the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina lacks a significant number of soldiers.

The members of the Joint Commission took note of the Information on the situation in the field of migration in Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2023, which was prepared by the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
