War criminal Stanislav Galić's request for early release denied

(Patria) - The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts has denied the request of war criminal and former commander of the Sarajevo-Romanija Corps of the Army of Republika Srpska, Stanislav Galić, for early release.

The Mechanism's statement indicates that Galić has not submitted any documentation to support his claims regarding his health condition, nor has he otherwise shown that his current age and health condition are an obstacle to his continued detention.

The Mechanism emphasizes that there is no evidence of compelling or exceptional circumstances that could justify early release.

Galić was sentenced to life imprisonment on November 30, 2006, after being found guilty of shelling and besieging Sarajevo.

He had previously requested early release in 2021, but the then-President Carmel Agius, as well as the current President Graciela Gatti Santana, stated that there were no valid reasons to grant the appeal.
