Tribute Paid to Sarajevo's Greats

By reciting Fatiha for Isa-beg Ishaković, Gazi Husrev-beg, and the martyrs at the Kovači Martyrs' Cemetery, representatives of the Old Town Municipality today marked May 2nd, the Day of the Old Town Municipality.

Representatives of the executive and legislative authorities of the Old Town Municipality visited the grave of Sarajevo's founder Isa-beg Ishaković in the Emperor's Mosque, the tomb of Sarajevo's greatest benefactor Gazi Husrev-beg in the Bey's Mosque, and the Kovači Martyrs' Cemetery, where they paid tribute to the martyrs who gave their lives for the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the aggression against this country from 1992 to 1995.

Mayor Hadžibajrić stated that this is the traditional start of the commemoration of the Day of the Old Town Municipality.

- For years, the commemoration of the Day of the Old Town Municipality has begun with remembering the great figures who made significant contributions to the founding and defense of Sarajevo. The Day of the Old Town Municipality is celebrated on May 2nd because crucial battles for the defense of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina were fought on this day in 1992 - said Mayor Hadžibajrić.
