Tribute paid to Commander Enver Šehović and the Panjeta brothers

On the occasion of marking the 22nd anniversary of the death of commanders Enver Šehović, brothers Zahir and Esad Panjeta and their comrades, the Minister for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton Muharem Fišo laid flowers today on their graves and paid tribute by reciting the Fatiha for all they did on Hill Žuč to defend the city of Sarajevo, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

- Hill Žuč was a strategically important elevation for the defense of Sarajevo during the Serbian aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina. In July 1993 alone, 89 members of the First Glorious Motorized Brigade of the First Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 18 Vikić special forces, and several police officers from the Novo Sarajevo Police Department lost their lives on this elevation - emphasized Minister Fišo and added that Enver and Zahir were only 26 and 28 years old when they were killed.

- They defended Bosnia and Herzegovina with their hearts, our fellow citizens, children, mothers, and sisters, and thus prevented the genocide that was being prepared against us - said Minister Fišo after laying flowers.

During the war for the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995, there were not many examples where a unit and its commander were so identified with each other, casting no shadow on one another, but only light by which both shine more beautifully in the memory of us survivors. Such is the case with the hero of the defensive-liberation war, Commander Šehović and his First Knightly Motorized Brigade. At the beginning of the war, in 1992, he left the former Yugoslav People's Army and joined the ranks of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Through a series of positions entrusted to him, a firm thread of continuity in the creation and maturation of the Army can be seen, in parts of the municipalities of Vogošća and Novo Sarajevo, from the first smaller units and detachments to one of the strongest and most glorious brigades. Enver Šehović wove this thread together with his comrades, and this is the great work of his life that places him among the greats of Bosnia and Herzegovina's history. An energetic commander and noble warrior, as he was, he led his fighters in great battles for the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a free and peaceful country for all good people regardless of their national and religious affiliation, it was said today at the commemoration of the anniversary of the death of these heroes.

The commemoration of the anniversary of the death was attended by numerous delegations, including the Second Ranger Regiment of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Association „1st Glorious - 111th Knightly Brigade“, a delegation from the Novo Sarajevo Municipality, the Association „101st Brigade Sarajevo“, and the Union of „Golden Lilies“ of Sarajevo Canton.
