Stricter conditions for entry into Austria from Monday

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Austria has decided to tighten border conditions due to the omicron variant of the coronavirus, so from Monday only those vaccinated with three doses and those who have recovered from COVID-19 will be able to freely enter the country, said Health Minister Wolfgang Mueckstein.

Those who have not received the third dose of the vaccine must show a PCR test at the border or go into quarantine after arrival. Isolation will end after PCR testing and a negative test.

This does not apply to pregnant women and those who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons, which must be proven with a medical certificate. Special rules have been adopted for children.

School-age children may enter the country with proof of sufficient testing, meaning three times a week. For those under 12, these measures do not apply.

"These stricter rules are a big challenge, especially for those traveling abroad for the Christmas holidays. But they are especially necessary in this period when Austria is fighting the spread of omicron," said Mueckstein.
