Four Sarajevo Canton Higher Education Ministers Changed Since March 2023, New Appointment in September?

(Patria) - Sarajevo Canton Prime Minister Nihad Uk announced that the new Sarajevo Canton Minister of Higher Education will be elected at the first September session, although it is not yet known who will take that position at this moment.

Since the first Sarajevo Canton Government was formed in March 2023, this will formally be the third minister of science, higher education, and youth of Sarajevo Canton, and unofficially the fifth. The first minister in this Government was Pavle Krstić (March-November), then in November 2023 Adna Mesihović, and from April Darja Softić-Kadenić, and from July Zlatko Mijatović.

Suspended minister Adna Mesihović (ZNG) accepted the mandate of a deputy in the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, which she is expected to take over at the next session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly.

Damir Marjanović left the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, and Mesihović was next on the list. Although she is under investigation for abuse of office and spent two months in custody, there was no obstacle for her to take over the mandate of a deputy.

In her absence, the Ministry was managed by the Minister of Justice and Administration Darja Softić-Kadenić, and from the second half of July, it was taken over by the Minister of Economy Zlatko Mijatović.

It is still unknown who will propose a candidate for this position, but it is certain that it will not be ZNG, which also has the Minister of Finance in the Sarajevo Canton Government.

It should be reminded that Mesihović and Kalamujić in December 2024 stopped the payment of salaries to the employees of the University of Sarajevo because they disputed the legality of the Rector of UNSA Tarik Zaimović.

The Sarajevo Canton Government should finally consider who will take over the higher education sector, considering all the challenges that fall under the jurisdiction of this ministry.

There is a possibility that it will be someone from the employees of the University of Sarajevo.
