From today, drivers in BiH are not obliged to have winter equipment, prepare your vehicle for driving at higher temperatures

(Patria) - Drivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina are no longer obliged to have and use winter equipment on the roads from today, according to valid laws.

In BiH, the use of winter equipment is mandatory from November 1st to April 1st.

The Automobile and Motorcycle Club of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIHAMK) reminds drivers that after the obligation to possess winter equipment expires, it is necessary to prepare the vehicle for driving at higher temperatures. To make driving in spring conditions as comfortable and safe as possible, and to avoid costly breakdowns, it is important to carry out adequate preparations, they state.

Check and replace tires

Winter tires are not adapted for driving in high-temperature conditions, which is why it is important to change tires. The condition of tires plays a crucial role in ensuring safety and control on the road. Tires need to be inspected for wear, uneven tread, bulges, or cracks. Replace them if necessary. Worn tires can significantly affect vehicle handling, especially on wet surfaces, BIHAMK warned.

Winter weather can leave salt, sand, and dirt residue on roads. The vehicle needs to be thoroughly cleaned to remove all corrosive substances that have accumulated during the colder months. Cleaning the car helps prevent rust and maintains the vehicle's longevity.

Also, the air conditioning system is another part that needs attention, as it was often used during winter. To prevent the development of bacteria and fungi, the air conditioning filter should be replaced after winter.

Check oil and other fluids

Regularly check oil, coolant, brake fluid, and power steering fluid, and top up or replace as needed. Neglecting fluid maintenance can lead to engine damage, overheating, or brake failure. Do not forget to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for fluid types and replacement intervals. They also state that the battery, brakes, and lights need to be checked.

Finally, BIHAMK states that it is important to be prepared for unexpected emergencies, i.e., to pack an emergency kit with essential items such as a first-aid kit, flashlight, jumper cables, tire repair kit, and a reflective warning triangle. These items can prove important in case of breakdowns or accidents.

Statistics show that prepared vehicles and cautious drivers have a significantly lower accident rate during spring.
