Cigarettes more expensive in Bosnia and Herzegovina starting today

(Patria) - Cigarettes are more expensive in Bosnia and Herzegovina starting today, as a decision by the Management Board of the Indirect Taxation Authority (UIO) BiH on increasing the minimum excise duty by 0.19 KM per pack of cigarettes has come into effect.

According to the decision of the UIO Management Board, the minimum excise duty on 1,000 cigarettes in 2026 will be 188.50 KM, or 3.77 KM per pack of 20 cigarettes.

Last year, the minimum excise duty was 179 KM per 1,000 pieces, or 3.58 KM per pack.

The specific excise duty on cigarettes remains unchanged and amounts to 1.65 KM per pack of 20 cigarettes.

The excise duty on smoking tobacco is set at 80 percent of the minimum excise duty on cigarettes and this year amounts to 150.80 KM per kilogram, while in 2025 it was 143.20 KM.

The Management Board of the UIO BiH also made a decision on the rate of compensatory interest for the period from January 1 to June 30, 2026. The rate remains unchanged and is 12 percent.
