Of four mosques destroyed on July 4, 1993, two have been rebuilt, two are nearing completion

On this day, four Banja Luka mosques were destroyed: Gazanferija mosque (Gazanfer-begova) in Mala Čaršija, Jama mosque (Sofi Mehmed-pašina) in Gornji Šeher, Mehdi-begova mosque in Hiseti, and Hadži Begzad mosque, which was also in Gornji Šeher. Jama mosque has been fully rebuilt, as has Hadži Begzad mosque, while work on Gazanferija mosque and Mehdi-begova mosque is in advanced stages, said Kasim Mujičić, president of the Islamic Community Council of Banja Luka.

During the aggression, 16 mosques were destroyed in the Banja Luka area. The reconstruction of Arnaudija mosque has not yet begun because its remains were dispersed to various locations after its destruction on May 7, 1993. Ferhadija mosque, destroyed on the same day, is nearing completion of its reconstruction. The reconstruction took a long time because it is an original reconstruction and required significant financial resources.

- Today, there are a total of 22 mosques in the Banja Luka Islamic Community Council area, and foundations for the 23rd mosque will be laid soon - Mujičić stated.
