BiH asked to ban overflights by Russian aircraft

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Directorate of Civil Aviation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has received a letter from the European Commission's Crisis Coordination Committee (EACCC) requesting a ban on flights by Russian aircraft.

BHDCA has yet to confirm receipt of the letter or comment on what action it will take.

What has been confirmed is that BHDCA received a request from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bisera Turković, to ban flights.

- I call on the Directorate of Civil Aviation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to take all necessary actions and activities within its competence, and in accordance with the provisions of Article 95, paragraph (4) of the Law on Aviation of Bosnia and Herzegovina („Official Gazette of BiH“, number 39/09) to ban aircraft from the Russian Federation from flying in the airspace of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the call from Turković states.

Due to Russia's aggression against Ukraine, air traffic between most European countries and Russia has been suspended.

The European Union closed its airspace to all Russian aircraft, as well as private aircraft owned by Russian nationals and aircraft registered in that country, on February 27.

Albania has also decided to close its airspace to Russian airlines, announced the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Albania, Olta Xhacka. North Macedonia has taken this step as well, while Montenegro has already confirmed that it will follow all EU sanctions.
