From an American Student, Through the "Eternal" SDP President, to Complete Collapse

While many of his peers didn't even know where the United States of America was on a map, Zlatko Lagumdžija graduated from a high school in Detroit (USA) in 1973. This was largely because his father Salko, after whom Zlatko's son is now named, was a very influential man, and from 1965 to 1967 he was even the mayor of Sarajevo, writes the BH news agency Patria (NAP).

Zlatko Lagumdžija was born in Sarajevo. Apart from his time in the USA as a high school student, he achieved everything in Sarajevo that was necessary for his later, very turbulent life. He graduated from the University of Sarajevo in 1977, obtained his Master's degree in 1981, and his PhD in 1988, with theses in the fields of computer science and electrical engineering.

His close associates say that Lagumdžija has not been directly involved in his profession for a long time, but he is still a very good computer scientist today and literally follows even the smallest developments in IT. What keeps him fresh in IT the most is the fact that he has been a professor at the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo for about twenty years, teaching subjects that always relate to IT.

He joined the SDP BiH upon its founding in 1990. During the aggression against BiH, from 1992 to 1993, he was the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and then he was appointed its Prime Minister. He ceased to hold office in the Government in 1993.

After the first general elections, held in 1996, Lagumdžija was elected as a representative in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.

The following year, he was elected president of the SDP BiH and remained at its head for a full 17 years. During this time, the media often linked him to numerous illegal activities, scandals, extortion of businessmen, and rigging tenders for companies owned by his friends, but to this day, none of these indictments against him have been confirmed, writes Patria.

In the elections held in 2000, Lagumdžija again entered the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH as a representative, but only a year later he ceased to hold his representative duty as he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH in the Council of Ministers of BiH.

Five months later, Lagumdžija was appointed Chairman of the Council of Ministers and remained in that position until 2002, when he was reappointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH, but he would only stay in that position for a short time this time as well, from where he returned to the benches of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.

In the 2010 general elections, the SDP, led by Lagumdžija, literally swept the competition and became the absolute winner, and Lagumdžija once again became the Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH. However, only four years later, in the seventh general elections in BiH, the SDP experienced, as Lagumdžija himself stated, an incredible shipwreck. The SDP won only about ten percent of the voters' votes.

The day October 12, 2014, will be remembered as the moment of the increasingly loud announcement of Lagumdžija's final political downfall. The majority of members of the SDP BiH's inner leadership are demanding his resignation.
