Of 6,513 migrants, 70 percent have left Bosnia and Herzegovina

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been briefed on the current situation in the field of migration and the increased influx of migrants into Bosnia and Herzegovina, and continues to expect continuous control of the BiH border with Serbia and Montenegro, i.e., the involvement of available police capacities from the BiH level.

The Council of Ministers has also been informed about preparations for holding a donor conference in Sarajevo, given the expressed desire of certain countries and international organizations to financially assist BiH in overcoming the migrant crisis.

The Council of Ministers expects the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to make the necessary decision regarding the Ušivak facility near Hadžići and the facility in the Una-Sana Canton, which are to be allocated for migrant accommodation. After that, their equipping and the accommodation of migrants will be urgently undertaken.

According to available data, in the period from January 1 to June 13, 6,513 illegal migrants were reported to the BiH Service for Foreigners' Affairs, of whom 5,887 expressed an intention to seek asylum, while 611 submitted such a request.

No migrant has been granted asylum in BiH, and of the total number of migrants who entered BiH, as stated at the session, 70 percent have left our country.

Under the Readmission Agreement with Croatia, BiH accepted 292 persons, while 571 migrants from BiH were returned to other countries on the same basis.

The information states that the Action Plan of Emergency Measures is being implemented, which contains five priorities, 17 measures, and 73 activities.

The priorities are focused on strengthening the Border Police of BiH for better border control and preventing illegal entries into the territory of BiH, strengthening the capacities of the Service for Foreigners' Affairs and the Migration Sector of the Ministry of Security, strengthening capacities in the area of asylum and intensifying the fight against migrant smuggling, as well as strengthening readmission capacities along with the implementation of readmission agreements.
