TRAFFIC JAMS EXPECTED Work on Sarajevo's Main Road to Resume Saturday

(Patria) - Work on the rehabilitation project of the main city road - Obala Kulina bana street in Sarajevo - will resume on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

The company carrying out the work (Strabag) announced that this is part of a wider infrastructure project for the reconstruction of the Ilidža - Baščaršija - Ilidža ring.

The works include Phase I on the section from Hamze Hume street to Ćumurija street, with a total length of approximately 1.1 kilometers.

The works, which began in 2024, were temporarily suspended in December due to unfavorable weather conditions.

During the winter period, the contractor conserved the construction site and temporarily paved the route to keep the road functional for all road users - pedestrians, public transport, and motor vehicles.

"Given that all necessary conditions for continuing the activities have now been met, both in terms of weather conditions and technical documentation – the contractor Strabag d.o.o. Sarajevo will resume removing the existing asphalt layer and laying a new wearing course on Saturday, along with other works defined in the contract," the statement said.

A temporarily modified traffic regime will be in effect during the execution of the works, in accordance with the decision of the competent ministry.

"All citizens, drivers, and other road users are asked for additional patience and understanding, as temporary traffic jams are expected. With your patience and cooperation, we will all contribute to the faster and higher-quality completion of the works and the soonest possible return of this extremely busy city road to full functionality," they stated in the announcement.
