(Patria) - The decision of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament to adopt the Resolution on preventing all forms of violence against women and harassment of women in BiH is encouraging, as an expression of the will of the state authorities to finally put an end to this growing problem.
But at the same time, the refusal of MPs from ruling parties, and especially female MPs who refused to sign the initiative to partially implement this resolution by dismissing the state minister accused of domestic violence, is devastating, said delegate in the Federal House of Peoples Aida Obuća.
As the Vice-President of SDA and President of the Commission for Gender Equality of the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament, and especially as a woman, she said that she welcomes the adopted Resolution, but also the initiative to dismiss Minister Staša Košarac, whose ex-wife testified in the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH about the terrible violence she suffered.
"SDA cadres at all levels of government will support the adoption of any decision that will contribute to the fight against violence against women, which was confirmed by the support for the Resolution in the House of Representatives, as well as the initiative to dismiss Minister Košarac.
I call on the MPs of the ruling parties, and especially the female MPs of the 'Trojka' parties who did not sign the initiative - Sabina Ćudić, Mija Karamehić-Abazović, Rejhana Dervišević, and Ermina Salkičević-Dizdarević to, when the dismissal comes on the agenda of the House of Representatives, put the need to protect women and stop the growing violence that increasingly has fatal consequences ahead of party interests and personal comfort.
Otherwise, they will show that their protection of women is only a declarative commitment that is subordinate to positions in power and associated benefits.
It is high time to move from words to deeds and to start sanctioning and preventing violence against women with concrete actions, and the dismissal of a minister accused of domestic violence is precisely one important step in that direction," Obuća said.
