Obuća: FBiH Government and parliamentary majority violate the Constitution, I demand deletion of the contested article by amendment

(Patria) - In democratic societies, the legislative power plays a key role in controlling the executive power. However, the parliamentary majority, together with the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is doing everything to further trample the Constitution of FBiH and undermine the system of checks and balances, said the Vice-President of SDA and delegate in the House of Peoples of FBiH, Aida Obuća, in a press release.

"Article 20 of the Constitution of FBiH clearly stipulates that Parliament is competent for adopting the budget and tax laws, and it is unbelievable that the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH has once again become an accomplice in the derogation and suspension of constitutional principles within the entity. Derogation that will open the possibility for further abuse of finances and strengthening of the authoritarian system of governance that the 'troika' is trying to establish. This is the reality that threatens us if we allow such a Proposal of the Law on Amendments to the Law on
Budgets in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to be adopted by the House of Peoples," states Obuća.

She believes that her duty as a delegate is to defend the constitutional order and the interests of the citizens, and precisely because of this, she is demanding the deletion of the contested article through the amendment procedure.

"We must not allow our country to turn into a state ruled only by self-elected elites, and the voice of the citizens to go unheard, which is why I call on all fellow representatives to support my amendment and to fight together for the preservation of constitutionality and democratic values in the Federation of BiH. Our future as a country depends on whether we will have a strong and independent parliament that will protect the interests of the citizens," concluded Obuća.
