Renewed Conflicts in Iraq Cause New Civilian Casualties

(Patria) – Iraqi militant groups fired two 'Katyusha' rockets that hit a house in Baghdad, killing two women and three children, while two children were wounded, the Iraqi army said.

The family members are the first civilian casualties of renewed conflicts and violence in Iraq, where Shia militias target American interests in the country, Reuters reports.

Sources close to the Iraqi police stated that the target of the attack was Baghdad airport.

Washington is preparing to withdraw diplomats from Iraq after warning Baghdad about the possible closure of the embassy, two Iraqi officials and two Western diplomats told Reuters.

Iraqis fear this could turn their country into a war zone.
