Macron's strategy for the Western Balkan countries published

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The office of French President Emmanuel Macron has published a strategy concerning the Western Balkan countries, aiming, as stated, for France's more active participation in the stabilization of the six countries of the region not part of the EU, their socio-economic development, and the strengthening of the rule of law. 

The strategy emphasizes the intensification of ties with the region, confirmed by the announced visit of Macron to Serbia in July, while the French Minister for Europe and the Head of Diplomacy will visit Albania and Kosovo during this year. 

In addition, visits by government and parliamentary representatives to other countries in the region are planned. 

Furthermore, the strategy states that despite significant progress, numerous reforms lie ahead for the Western Balkans, with political disputes mentioned as the biggest challenges, assessing the Prespa Agreement as an example of successful regional dialogue.

Areas requiring further work highlighted include the sustainable implementation of the rule of law and security challenges, as well as external influences diverting the region from the European path. 

Among the most important forms of cooperation, the participation of the French Development Agency (AFD) is emphasized, particularly in the areas of energy and ecological transition, as well as in the process of reconciliation, especially among young people. 

Regarding security issues, the strategy states that France will continue to provide assistance in the fight against illegal trafficking of small arms and light weapons, intelligence sharing, and the establishment of platforms for reporting illegal online content. 

According to this document, official Paris will continue technical cooperation in combating drug trafficking, arms trafficking, human trafficking, and suppressing organized crime and corruption. 

Macron's office states that the strategy is in line with EU activities in supporting and bringing our region closer to Europe.
