Seventh anniversary of Denis Mrnjavac's death marked

The seventh anniversary of Denis Mrnjavac's death was marked today with the laying of flowers and a symbolic performance jointly conceived by the Youth Association "Denis Mrnjavac" and the International Theatre Festival MESS, writes the BH news agency Patria.

Mrnjavac was a victim of juvenile offenders who, without any reason, stabbed him to death on February 5, 2008, in a Sarajevo tram, and he died on February 6.

During the tram ride from the Railway Station to Skenderija - Technical School, students from the Music High School performed by playing music while actors recited verses, and at that station, relatives, friends, and citizens gathered, laid flowers, and paid their respects.

The president of the "Denis Mrnjavac" Association, Vedran Džaan Ljevarević, emphasized that the aim is to send a message that similar incidents must never happen again, but that the lesson has still not been learned, even after seven years.

Denis's mother, Ana Mrnjavac, said that by marking the anniversary, her son lives on and that young people must draw a lesson from this event.

- This is a great message for the city and the public. I believe there is hope and a future for this city, and this is partly Denis's legacy - said Denis's mother.

Denis Mrnjavac was a second-year student at the Catholic School Center in Sarajevo.

Prof. Dr. Damir Marjanović, former Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, left a message on his Facebook profile.

- In a perfect world today, you would be 24 years old, have finished college, have a job, a family, you would have gotten your driver's license, and you would probably go skiing somewhere this weekend... Unfortunately, that world ceased to exist for you 7 years ago! Rest in peace Denis, you eternally smiling boy.
