Anniversary Marked of the Death of Seven Fellow Citizens in Hamdije Kreševljakovića Street

On this day 21 years ago, a 120 mm shell fired from aggressor positions on Hladivode killed seven citizens of Sarajevo and wounded four others seriously and lightly in Hamdije Kreševljakovića Street near number 47 (formerly Dobrovoljačka), reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

On this occasion, delegations of the Sarajevo Canton, the City and the Centar Municipality, the Union of Civil War Victims of the Sarajevo Canton, as well as families and friends, paid due tribute to the tragically killed fellow citizens by laying flowers, reciting the Fatiha and observing a minute of silence at this location. On that fateful day in 1993, the following were killed: Staka Aksentić, Zekerijah Dacić, Ibro and Sead Plakalo, Igbal Redžić, Dženan Smajić and Elvedin Zimić.

On behalf of the Centar Municipality, flowers were laid by Mustafa Resić, advisor to the municipal mayor Dževad Bećirević, and Ibrahim Burazerović, coordinator for local communities of the Local Self-Government Service.

In his address to those present, the Deputy Minister for Veterans' Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, Osman Smajlović, told those present that unfortunately this was not the only time that citizens of Sarajevo, trying to survive, were killed.

– We have already seen this in the queue for water at the Pivara and Daire, in Ferhadija in the queue for bread, at the Markale market, during funerals in Budakovići and Buljakov potok, during children sledding on Alipašino polje and Bistrik. Today we gathered at this place to save our killed fellow citizens from oblivion, because oblivion is a sin and complicity in crime – said Smajlović.

Today's flower-laying ceremony was also attended by Satka Poričanin, who lost her father and brother Ibro and Sead on that fateful day.

– Every day I live with this pain is difficult, especially these days when the anniversary of their death is marked. My late brother, who as a member of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was wounded shortly before this event, together with my father and neighbors went to get wood for the cold winter days, and while returning home, from a fired shell they lost their lives together with five more of our fellow citizens – said Satka.
