31st Sad Anniversary of the Massacre in Sarajevo's Žrtava fašizma Street Marked: Nine Killed, 38 Wounded

(Patria) - A delegation of Sarajevo Canton laid flowers today at the site of the massacre in Žrtava fašizma Street in the Otoka neighborhood, in memory of our murdered fellow citizens in this atrocity. At this place, 31 years ago, three grenades were fired from aggressor positions in Nedžarići, whose explosive effects killed nine and seriously and lightly wounded 38 Sarajevans.

Just one day earlier, from the same positions of the aggressor army, projectiles were fired that killed teacher Fatima Gunić and three of her students during a lesson in Alipašino Polje.

As was pointed out on this occasion, those fateful November 9 and 10, 1993, were not an exception, as the aggressors systematically killed children and civilians of Sarajevo throughout the entire siege of Sarajevo.

"How else to interpret those monstrous intentions and killings of civilians while they were waiting in lines for bread, water, humanitarian aid, killings of children while sledding and playing, and in numerous other situations. Today we gathered here for our murdered fellow citizens, and we will do so in the coming years, but also to warn that such evil should never happen again to anyone," stated, among other things, in her address to those present, the assistant minister in the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton, Azra Ivazović.

With his testimony, a member of the Council of the Local Community "Otoka", Davor Ninić, reminded those present of this sad event and thanked them for coming to the site of the massacre and remembering his murdered neighbors.

On that sad day in the massacre in Žrtava fašizma Street, the following were killed: Elma Geko, Slavojka Govedarica, Semir Haseta, Amina Hećo, Ajdin Hodžić, Ibrahim Huskić, Vinko Lončar, Silvijo Mačorović, and Božidar Šuka.

Flowers at the site of their deaths were also laid by the families and relatives of the victims, delegations of the City and the Municipality of Novi Grad, representatives of the Union of Civilian Victims of War, the Association of Parents of Killed Children of Besieged Sarajevo 1992–1995, the Association of Civilian Victims of War "Svjetlost", and the Local Community of Otoka, as well as students and teaching staff of Elementary School "Mehmedalija Mak Dizdar", Elementary School "Osman Nakaš", and high school students of the Third Gymnasium.
