30th anniversary of the massacre at 'Skender Kulenović' Elementary School marked: Seven killed and 12 wounded while waiting in line for water

(Patria) - A delegation of the Sarajevo Canton today laid flowers at the memorial to the victims of the massacre in the atrium of the "Skender Kulenović" Elementary School in Dobrinja, in memory of seven fellow citizens who were killed on this day 30 years ago by members of the Republika Srpska army.

From the explosion of a grenade fired from aggressor positions in Nedžarići and the consequences of injuries at this location, Kenan Čizmić, Rešad Imamović, Izet Kadić, Sulejman Mehmedović, Bahrija Sijerčić, and Nura and Safet Lončar died while waiting in line for water. At that time, another 12 of our fellow citizens were seriously and lightly wounded.

At the site of their suffering, families and fellow citizens gathered, along with delegations from the Canton, the City, the Novi Grad Municipality, the Union of Civilian War Victims of the Sarajevo Canton, the Council of the Dobrinja "D" Local Community, as well as students from the "Skender Kulenović" Elementary School, the Sixth Elementary School in Ilidža, and the Secondary Technical School of Graphic Technologies, Design and Multimedia with their teachers, to pay tribute to the killed.

On behalf of the Canton, the Assistant Minister for Labor, Social Policy, Displaced Persons and Refugees, Edina Jakubović, addressed those present. She emphasized that this gathering is about nurturing memory and an act of respect towards the fellow citizens killed during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, the thousand-day siege of Sarajevo, the courage, endurance and resilience of its citizens, but also all the horrors they experienced, which we must not forget.

She said that we must unite in condemning every crime against children and against humanity, and advocate for justice that must be served.

"While remembering the terrible crimes of the past, we must strongly advocate for the values that are the foundation of a just society. The future of our Bosnia and Herzegovina must be built on the foundations of peace and mutual respect. That is our moral obligation towards all victims of the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and especially towards every child who was killed. May our shared memory be a beacon of hope and inspiration for a better future, where every child can grow up safely, in peace and love," Jakubović stated.

On the memorial to the victims of the massacre in the school atrium, the names of Denis Bosankić and Misad Hodžić, students of this school who died in Dobrinja during the aggression against our country, are also inscribed.
