26th Sad Anniversary of the Suffering of Lješevo Residents Marked

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - As part of the commemoration of the 26th sad anniversary of the suffering of the residents of Lješevo in the Ilijaš municipality, yesterday the Minister for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton Muharem Fišo paid tribute and laid flowers at the memorial in remembrance of 22 residents of this place who were innocently executed on June 5, 1992.

Minister Fišo, in his address to those present, pointed out that it is known who committed this crime, but it is regrettable that none of those responsible have yet been prosecuted.

„At the same time, we are being forced to remain silent and to justify ourselves for defending our country and defending our children. That will not be possible, and from this place we say that no one has the right to bow their head before the truth,“ said Minister Fišo.

He thanked the Mayor of Ilijaš Municipality Akif Fazlić and the municipal veterans' associations who dignifiedly organize all commemorations and thus preserve the memory of all innocent victims in the terrible aggressor crimes, as well as the heroic struggle of the members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

„There is no forgetting, and we will permanently preserve the memory of a generation that Bosnia and Herzegovina waited for 400 years. It is the duty of all of us to jointly do everything so that such crimes never happen to us again,“ said Minister Fišo.

He added that fortunately our state had its brave sons who planned the defense, so the aggressor did not succeed in his intention.

„Our permanent obligation is to preserve the achievements of our struggle and never allow what the aggressor did to us to fall into oblivion,“ Minister Fišo conveyed, among other things, to the present relatives, friends and neighbors of the deceased residents of this place.

On that fateful June 5, 1992, in Lješevo, the following were killed: Ćamil and Izet Avdukić, Suljo, Munira, Hasan, Arif, Meho, Safet, Ibrahim, Huso and Amir Fazlić, Husnija, Mujo, Jasmin, Mensud, Fadil, Mehmed and Munir Masnopita, Arif Omanović, Zubejda Suljić, Nijaz Nuhić and Asim Karavdić.

The commemoration was attended by numerous citizens, families of the victims, and representatives of veterans' associations from the municipalities of Ilijaš, Breza and Visoko.
