26th anniversary of the suffering of Bosniaks in the Kalinovik area marked

KALINOVIK, (Patria) - Members of the families of the killed and missing, as well as survivors of the Kalinovik camps, visited the former camps, places of torture and killing in the municipality of Kalinovik, laid flowers and recited Fatiha to mark the 26th anniversary of the suffering of the civilian population of that area, reports BHRT.

The commemoration began with laying flowers at the Rogoj pass, and then in front of the Kalinovik Elementary School, which was converted into a camp during the war, through which more than 1,000 women, children, and men passed.

14 men were killed in the camp, and more than 30 women were raped, humiliated, tortured, and abused.

The president of the Association of Family Members of Missing Persons from the Municipality of Kalinovik "Istina – Kalinovik '92", Samir Vranović, said that they laid flowers in front of the elementary school in Kalinovik, where the camp was located, paid tribute, and recited Yasin.

According to him, as part of the commemoration, they will visit the Barutni magacin camp in Jelašjačko Polje.

- Tribute will be paid and flowers will be laid at the infamous camp from which 87 men were taken and killed, as well as at the Tuzlak stable in the village of Ratine, where 25 men were shot and then burned. The last location is the Miljevina tunnels, where 37 men were killed and buried with stones from the surrounding hills above the Bistrica River - said Vranović.

He adds that they have identified 33 people and are still searching for four.

Out of a total of 122 killed Bosniaks in Kalinovik, 79 people have been found and identified so far, and 43 people of Bosniak nationality are still being searched for.

Vranović said that the 26th anniversary of the suffering of Bosniaks in Kalinovik is attended by, among others, the Vice-President of Republika Srpska Ramiz Salkić, representatives of the Federal Ministry for Veterans' Affairs, the Ministry for Refugees and Displaced Persons, the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH, the Minister for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton Muharem Fišo, representatives of several municipalities, and numerous associations.
