23rd anniversary of the Markale massacre commemorated: Sarajevo remembers all innocent victims today

A joint commemorative session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, Sarajevo City Council, and municipal councils from the Sarajevo Canton area was held in Sarajevo today on the Day of Remembrance for all citizens of Sarajevo who died between 1992 and 1995, and the 23rd anniversary of the massacre at Markale market, Patria writes.

Sarajevo today remembers all those who gave their lives for freedom and homeland - said, among other things, the Chairperson of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly Ana Babić.

After the joint commemorative session, participants laid flowers at the memorial at Markale market.

On this day, 68 innocent citizens of Sarajevo were killed in the first massacre at Markale market, and 142 were seriously or lightly wounded. The mortar shell was fired from Serb positions. The commander of the Sarajevo-Romanija Corps, Stanislav Galić, was sentenced to life imprisonment for this crime at the Hague Tribunal.
