Commemoration of World Diabetes Day

The World Health Organization and the International Diabetes Federation proclaimed November 14th as World Diabetes Day in 1991. The campaign's goal is to raise global awareness about diabetes, as well as promote healthy eating and more physical activity, reports the Patria News Agency.

The Association of Diabetics of Sarajevo Canton, like in previous years, organized a series of activities for the residents of the Centar Municipality on the occasion of World Diabetes Day. A workshop titled "Prevention of Diabetes and the First Complications It Brings" was organized at the premises of the Association of Diabetics of Sarajevo Canton (Štrosmajerova 3).

According to Alma Dervišbegović-Muminagić, technical secretary of the Association of Diabetics of Sarajevo Canton, this and similar dates are an ideal opportunity for citizens to learn about diabetes, its prevention, and the complications it brings through workshops.

- First of all, I want to thank the Centar Municipality and Mayor Dževad Bećirević, who continuously support the work of our Association. Socializing in a relaxed atmosphere with a diabetologist is an ideal opportunity for our members to measure their blood sugar and to learn as much as possible about this dangerous disease, said Dervišbegović-Muminagić.

Diabetologist Ranko Kovač, president of the Management Board of the Association of Diabetics of Sarajevo Canton, emphasized that socializing in a relaxed atmosphere, where patients do not fear the white coat, is an excellent opportunity to influence patients' awareness so that they can fight diabetes more effectively.

- Such meetings are very useful for our patients to become better acquainted with the dangers of diabetes, for us to examine them from time to time, and for them to talk with fellow diabetologists, stated Kovač, as reported by the Centar Municipality.
