Marking the International Childhood Cancer Day

BiH, (Patria) - At the very beginning of 2018, we want to encourage the entire community to collectively raise awareness about childhood cancer on the International Childhood Cancer Day, February 15th, it was announced from the Association  „Heart for children suffering from cancer“.

This is a day when we unite to make childhood cancer a national and global health priority.

When we talk about FBiH, cancer is diagnosed in about 60 children annually, and the cure rate is around 80%. Such results confirm that the team of the Hemato-oncology Department of the Pediatric Clinic of KCUS, led by Prof. Dr. Edo Hasanbegović, is a reference center in FBiH, recognized in the region, with exceptional success in treating children aged 0 to 18.

The Hemato-oncology Department has treated over 1,000 patients suffering from malignant diseases from all over BiH. Last year, autologous peripheral stem cell transplantation was performed for a sixteen-month-old boy suffering from Neuroblastoma stage 4, for the first time in the region.

Also, last year, the Department of Hematology and Oncology of the Clinic for Children's Diseases of UKC Tuzla started treating children suffering from malignant diseases. The Association „Heart for children“ has expanded its psychosocial support program to this department as well, by signing a memorandum of cooperation with UKC Tuzla.

The Association „Heart for children“, together with the Hemato-oncology Department of the Jezero Pediatric Clinic and the Clinic for Children's Diseases of UKC Tuzla, is marking February 15th, International Childhood Cancer Day, under the slogan „We can beat cancer together“.
